Preventing falls while you AGE

As we age, our body structure tends to get weak, causing body imbalance thus resulting in falls, which may succumb severe injuries & pain. Today we share few tips that can be implemented to prevent falls for your aging parents or grandparents.

Get moving– Preferably with a strength and balance program specifically for older adults. The stronger you are and the more you use your muscles, the more your body can balance and protect itself in fall-risk situations. In case you are not sure about the strength & balance programs, it would be best to consult your physiotherapist.

Review your medications with a pharmacist or doctor– Some side-effects (like drowsiness or dizziness) can increase your risk of falling. Check regularly with your doctor to make sure you’re taking your medication as prescribed, and let them know if there are any side effects.

Get your hearing and vision checked frequently– obviously, having the right glasses or prescription can affect your ability to navigate, but did you know that your hearing can also affect your balance? The systems that affect balance and dizziness actually reside in your ears, so don’t neglect to talk to your doctor or a specialist about this.

Make your home more fall-proof– by removing tripping hazards such rugs or cords, improving lighting, and adding grab bars in areas like the bathroom, you can make your home safer. All such features are a must for retirement homes to be resident friendly for senior citizens.

At The Golden Estate (TGE), we do understand the varied requirements needed by different people especially elders. Thus, we have incorporated grab bars, anti skid flooring in all our washrooms along with emergency alarms in both washrooms and rooms to ensure our residents’ safety

We also conduct various programs very often guiding our residents about various health problems & how to overcome them by calling in specialist doctors assited by our in house doctor and physiotherpist. At TGE, we offer residents comprehensive elderly care services along with a dignified lifestyle.
